Alpha-20 is a formal, executable, and cryptographically traceable language built on 20 universal semantic primitives. Organized across five ontological layers (L0-L4), it is designed to be read, written, and executed by humans, AI agents, and software across scientific disciplines. The language features a deterministic compiler to Python and WebAssembly, a native SVG glyph renderer, a Web Audio API sonification engine, and a state-sealing mechanism using SHA-256 and OpenTimestamps. This paper details the architecture, implementation, and cryptographic provenance of the Alpha-20 ecosystem.
Existing programming languages prioritize computation over semantic universality. Existing data formats prioritize presentation over executability. Alpha-20 bridges this gap by defining a minimal lexicon of primitives that map directly to formal logic, physics, biology, and computer science. An Alpha-20 expression is not merely a string; it is a verifiable, multi-modal artifact.
The language is built on 20 primitives, grouped into five layers:
The Alpha-20 ecosystem operates on four independent but synchronized layers:
Expressions are parsed using a recursive descent parser implemented in both Python and JavaScript, strictly following the EBNF specification.
Expressions compile to executable Python predicates or WebAssembly text format (WAT). This ensures deterministic evaluation across environments.
Each primitive is mapped to a specific frequency, duration, and ADSR envelope. Evaluated expressions are synthesized in real-time via the Web Audio API, providing an auditory representation of the mathematical logic.
Every artifact, including source code, SVG outputs, and audio files, is hashed using SHA-256. The manifest of these hashes is signed with a GPG key and submitted to OpenTimestamps, anchoring the proof to the Bitcoin blockchain.
The Agentic Glyph is a self-contained SVG file. It embeds:
When a user interacts with the glyph (e.g., clicking EVALUATE), the state mutates, the visual elements update, the audio plays, and the internal hash is recalculated. It is a closed-loop cognitive artifact.
Verification of any Alpha-20 artifact requires:
The public GPG key is included in the archive. The private key remains offline.
Alpha-20 demonstrates that a language can be simultaneously human-readable, machine-executable, audibly perceivable, and cryptographically verifiable. It is an open standard for verifiable interoperability between biological and artificial intelligence.
All source code, manifests, and proofs are available in the ALPHA_ARCHIVE_000 repository. Reproduction requires only a POSIX shell, Python 3, and a web browser.
